Quickchat: How SCADA Can Manage and Make Sense of Renewable and Distributed Energy Data

Oct. 29, 2024

Managing editor Rod Walton spoke with Brett Benson, marketing director for global renewable energy solutions at global automation technology and software firm Emerson, about the rising need for SCADA—supervisory control and data acquisition tools—to help manage the proliferating data points coming from new renewable and distributed energy assets.

Many of these solar and battery storage projects are unmanned sites in remote regions, but they generate multiple times more data points than the average combined cycle plant. Tools such as SCADA, Benson noted, can help renewable and distributed energy operators determine what the data really means and if an issue requires human intervention.

The Quickchat also covers how that data is stored, whether on premises or in the cloud. Who owns the data and what are the cybersecurity concerns for the renewable and distributed energy resources?

Join Rod Walton and Emerson’s Brett Benson for a full discussion of SCADA and other data analytics in the alternative energies space.
